Free Breakfast Club

Free Breakfast Club

Dear parents,

The governing body of Ysgol Gymraeg Melin Gruffydd would firstly like to thank you all for your fantastic support during the past few challenging months. A number of changes have had to be made to ensure the safety of all the pupils and we are also grateful to all the school staff for their dedication and all their hard work.

Changes will also have to be made to the way that the Free Breakfast Club (FBC) is run. The main challenge is to ensure that pupils are in their class bubbles at all times and therefore, for this year, there will have to be a limit of 12 pupils per class. The FBC will reopen on September 21st and will be available to pupils in Reception to Year 6. Unfortunately, at this time it is impossible to accommodate the Meithrin Children due to capacity and H&S reasons.

The Free Breakfast Club is there for families who are finding it difficult to provide breakfast for their children. However, in these difficult times, we as a board have agreed that key worker children should also attend. There is uncertainty in how the next few months will pan out, therefore, it’s important that the school has a working model that will allow it to go into full and partial lockdown if the need arises.

Therefore, places in the FBC will be allocated in the following order of criteria (to include siblings) …

Pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM)
Pupils who are on the school’s vulnerable list
Keyworker children – Health, Care, Schools (those already registered via the Council’s website and new applicants through the school) – names drawn out of a hat if numbers exceed the class limit
Pupils who were on last year’s FBC list – names drawn out of a hat if numbers exceed the class limit
New applications – names drawn out of a hat if numbers exceed the class limit

Booking a place – The school will send out a Google Form via MySchoolApp. This is a mammoth task for the staff to organise therefore we ask for your support in this matter. We also ask that you fully consider whether you need a place as it could mean that families who really require a place could lose out.

Confirmation of a place in the Free Breakfast Club then allows you the opportunity to attend Clwb Carco – 7.30-8.30am. No children can attend Clwb Carco without having a place in FBC!

The above arrangements will be in place for the year and will be reviewed at the end of this term.

Many thanks again for your excellent support!

The Governing Body of Ysgol Gymraeg Melin Gruffydd
